About the Workshop

On April 7-9, 2008, the City of Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will host a workshop for the C40 Large Cities Climate Leadership Group.  The workshop, entitled C40 Airports and Climate Protection Workshop, will be an international forum to discuss the challenges and opportunities in reducing climate change impacts related to airport operations.  While city governments have varying degrees of jurisdictional authority of their respective airport, all cities play a role in the generation and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions related to airport operations.  City governments play a central role in transportation and land use that may be directly related to air travel.

The overall purpose of this workshop is share best practices, explore new innovative technology, and collectively problem solve on the challenges that cities face in reducing air pollution from aviation.   We expect this workshop to:

  • Exchange information and best practice on technological, regulatory and political barriers to reducing airport-based greenhouse gas emissions
  • Showcase models of cutting-edge policies and programs from cities around the world
  • Explore solution-based approaches to help mayors reduce airport emissions in their home cities

A pre-workshop webinar will be organized in advance for participants. Dates and times of the webinars will be announced shortly.
